Sunday Funday Moment: Anthony Middle School students create ‘Claw Mall’ to help their community dress for success

Anthony, Texas – A few Anthony ISD students help those in need with a community closet, but this community closet also teaches these students some very important life skills.

Anthony Middle School has unveiled its community closet also known as Claw Mall. This student-organized closet is a way for the school to not only help students, but also families in need in the community.

“Our biggest message is always how can we help you. What can we do for you and if anyone needs anything for an interview please come and visit because that is why we are here,” said Anthony Primary School Principal Jaime De La Torre.

Students and staff have been collecting gently used clothing for their mall since spring break.
The Community Closet offers a variety of clothing items including baby clothes, blankets, women’s casual and business clothes, men’s casual and business clothes, shoes, ties, and children’s clothes of all sizes and of all ages.

Community members wishing to visit the Claw Mall should make an appointment by calling (915) 886-6530 during regular class hours. Once they have made an appointment, a member of staff will accompany them to help them select their free items.

This community closet is a way for students to give back to their community, but it’s also a way for them to learn important life skills.

All donated clothing is washed, sanitized, ironed and folded by each student.

The Claw Mall is something the students of Anthony Middle School are proud of, as it is a way for them to care for the community they call themselves home.

If you would like to donate to the Claw Mall, you can do so by visiting the school campus Monday through Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Anthony Middle School.
