For about 14 years, Regency Homebuilders have followed the golden rule: Treat others the way you want.
COO Jill Sugg said that was why she had been with the company for a decade.
âI could go on for hours on end about what makes this place such a great place to work. I wouldn’t dream of leaving,â Sugg said.
“One of the most unique things about this job is how much the owners care about and invest in the people.”
Co-owners Sean Carlson and Jere Bowden founded the Germantown-based company in 2007 with the goal of building guests’ dream homes while maintaining a small business and family atmosphere.
Now Regency Homebuilders has been named the best place to work among small employers in the Memphis area for 2021.
This is the fourth year in a row that Regency Homebuilders have been named the Best Places to Work List.
âTheir top priority is to ensure that all members of the Regency family are happy and healthy,â Sugg said. “If anyone here is going through a difficult time, the property will go above and beyond to help in any way they can.”
Owners believe their 37 employees make the business a business and that Regency works best when they trust their team, Carlson said in a previous interview with The Commercial Appeal.
He said every employee harnesses creativity and intelligence to make the company go above and beyond.
âWhat makes our business isn’t the building, it’s not the stuff, it’s the people, and we just have great people,â Carlson said in 2020.

Sugg said the company is the best place to work.
âIt’s really special to be part of a company that really values ââits employees,â she said. “This mentality is spreading and creating a family atmosphere where everyone cares about each other and wants to see each other happy and be successful.”
She said the employees’ passions, creative freedom and the right attitude set Regency apart from other companies.
The trust owners have in their employees is what makes Sugg want to go to work every morning.
She also looks forward to office events for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and Halloween.
Employees and owners dress, distribute food and take time off their busy schedules to celebrate vacations, birthdays, baby showers and other family festivities, she said.
On Halloween, the company hosted a breakfast buffet and murder mystery party that turned out to be Sugg’s favorite day with everyone joining in the fun.
âWe love to be together here,â Sugg said.
Regency Homebuilders offers its employees benefits for their dedication. Some include standard benefits like health insurance, 401 (k) after one year of employment, and paid vacation.
The company also offers a ‘snack bar’, monthly company outings, gym memberships, catered lunches and a recreation area equipped with basketball, video games, bean bags. and a massage chair.
