Artist Creates Revolutionary One-of-a-Kind Garment with Sew Design Studio

Leland Chakos was having brunch when he saw an advert for one of Veronica Brackett’s beginner sewing classes at the Sew Design Studio on Green Bay Road.

Although he lives in Albany Park, Chakos, an artist, enrolled in Brackett’s beginner course and soon learned that it was the next step in his artistic career.

For Chakos, 25, it was his first time sewing, although he has used fabric in his designs before. Chakos’ brand, D Wildberry 25, used to be paint splatters on clothing, but after taking beginner’s lessons and private lessons from Brackett, he says painting was just the start of his craft. do towards the construction of garments.

Chakos made a pair of pants in the Beginners course, the usual first project for all beginner sewers taking a course with Brackett. During his private lessons, he learned to mix his love of art and construction of clothes and made a custom hoodie with scraps of fabric and a cover with the likeness of Juice Wrld, a rapper born in Chicago died 2019. The front, sleeves and hood are the cover up while the back features a royal purple fabric.

Chakos says anyone wanting to learn how to sew should take the beginner’s course at Sew Design Studio.

“Veronica can teach anyone to sew if you listen to her, she just knows how to teach.”

Brackett taught Chakos to have “integrity in your clothes,” which is how he decided to create his Juice Wrld sweatshirt as a tribute to the rapper — and as a conversation starter with others.

“It helps me connect with people through clothes that are my age,” he said.

Chakos will then take Brackett’s Intermediate Sewing Course, and while the feedback he’s received on his sweatshirt has been overwhelming, it’s not the most important comment to him.

“I love learning new things and I’m excited to build things that will look really nice and nice and impress people, but I want to impress Veronica the most because she’s the best teacher.”

Classes are held at Sew Design, 2608 Green Bay Rd., 312-600-7840.
